Classroom Assessments that Demonstrate State Standards
Facilitator(s): Alice Holt, Debra Smith, Denise Heffernan-Stearns

Workshop   +   Classroom Practice: assessment   +   Everyone
Maine state standards are intended to support all Maine students in using their minds well. However, there are far too many standards, and they are not of equal value. Teachers are faced with the dilemma of designing curriculum and assessment to challenge all students while aligning this work with the standards. The Electronic Learning Marketplace project has designed a Web site, tools and processes to help teachers focus on what is really important for students to know and be able to do; the site helps educators develop assessments and learning experiences to scaffold students' learning. Led by Southern Maine Partnership staff, participants in this workshop will learn "how to get there from here" using tools and processes developed with hundreds of Maine teachers.
