Why Schools Need Autonomy over Resources to Realize Their Missions
Facilitator(s): Rosann Tung, Connie Rodriguez, Dan French, Heydi Foster, Jay Feldman

Workshop   +   School Design: structures   +   Everyone
Autonomy from district bureaucracy allows schools to create unique identities and to respond to the community's needs quickly and effectively. Participants will learn how ten schools have used autonomy over scheduling and staffing to meet student and teacher needs in ways such as increasing collaborative time, having creative job descriptions, and incorporating advisories into the school day. In this session, practitioners will offer examples to other schools investigating new ways to manage limited resources. We will provide examples, discuss challenges, and explore ways other schools might also use autonomy to create conditions they believe best meet the needs of their school community.
Date/Time: Friday, 10:30am - 12:30pm   Room: CC 611   Session #58
